CHILDISH RECIPES
Ah, childhood, when you never counted calories. I was even inventive
enough to get away with not being a part of the clean plate club.
Once, when I hadn't finished my dinner my dad said to me "Well,
I guess you're too full for dessert." Being the smart ass I
was I replied, "Oh, no Daddy, my dinner tummy is full but my
z'wert tummy is empty." My dad was so impressed at my creative
logic he couldn't even argue. And guess who got her cake and ate
it, too?
Here are some fun recipes to get you back to the good old days.
Peanut Butter Play-dough
It only comes in one color - but it's completely edible!
1 cup peanut butter (smooth)
1 cup cornsyrup
1 ¼ cup powdered sugar
1 ¼ cup powdered milk
Mix ingredients with your hands. Now, shape and play with your
food (this playdough is edible, though I wouldn't recommend consuming
huge quantities unless you want a bellyache). Decorate with raisins,
sunflower seeds, chocolate chops, etc. Be wary, though, cause this
stuff is a bit greasy.
Snow Ice Cream
Every once in a while on a winter morning my brother and I would
wake up to hear the radio playing in our parent's bedroom. We'd
listen to the buzzing sound of the announcer's voice as they listed
off the schools closed for the day due to the weather. If our school's
name was called it was a guarantee that there was some Snow Ice
Cream in our near future. Here are two recipes, the first one from
my mom.
1 egg
¾ cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 ½ Tbl vanilla
dash of salt
clean snow
Beat egg. Add sugar, milk, vanilla and a dash of salt. Beat together.
Add snow until thick and creamy. Add food coloring for fun.
Variation:
2 ½ quarts clean snow
½ cup milk
1 tps vanilla
1 cup sugar
Stir together lightly and eat right away!
Easy Fudge
Santa never brought me an Easy-Bake Oven, so I had to make this
instead.
2 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
¼ cup peanut butter
2 Tbl milk
Mix and knead. Moisten hands to roll into balls. Keep refrigerated.
